Full Time Freight Loader

This is a permanent full time hourly position where extended hours and weekends could be required. You will be reporting to the Long Haul Manager or Branch Manager.

General Description:

• Loading and Unloading of freight
• Accurate completion of paperwork
• Participation in safety and training initiatives as required
• Customer service aptitude
• Cleaning and organizing the warehouse
• Unloading Southbound freight shipments
• Preparing deliveries
• Operating forklifts and pallet jacks
• Unloading trailers
• Palletizing product
• Other duties as assigned

• Must be able to safely lift and carry weights of 10 to 50 lbs without assistance, and 50 to 100 lbs plus with a second man
• Sitting for extended lengths of time
• Moderate use of stairs
• Must be able to push and pull dollies which are fully loaded
• Have the ability to kneel for extended periods, walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, jump down from trailers, trucks and other surfaces, lift arms above shoulders, do repetitive hand work, and have full use of both hands
• The ability to complete paperwork as per policy and procedure
• Will also require working in both hot and cold environments

• Grade 12 or equivalent experience
• Successfully pass a yearly driver observation ride-a-long
• Must complete a WHMIS and TDG course
• Must have a valid forklift certificate
• Good command of the English language both verbally and written
• Professional telephone and customer service aptitude
• Interpersonal skills
• Familiar with warehouse operations and freight logistics
• Participation in Health & Safety initiatives

• Planning and coordinating drivers/trailers/trips.
• Recruiting and hiring of drivers and trip leasers/leasers.
• Working with maintenance files, licensing and permits for the company.
• Coordinating Household Goods drivers as required.
• Interaction and communication with the Van Lines.
• Practicing, overseeing and enforcing the Company safety policies and procedures, and hours of service program.
• Share/rotation of on call duties.
• Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Long Haul Manager.

• General reception duties including answering and directing incoming calls, and greeting customers.
• Record incoming sales calls, data entry and file set up.
• Sort & distribute mail as well as prepare outgoing mail.
• Refill postage, fax. printer & photocopier toner and cartridges as required.
• Prepare mail bags for delivery internally & to the van lines.
• Sort & distribute faxes.
• Sell packing supplies to customers.
• Phone system maintenance and prepare mailers for the sales department.
• Transmitting paperwork to van lines and head office.
• Ordering stationary supplies.
• Other clerical duties as assigned from time to time.

• Manual Loading and unloading of household goods and office furniture
• Disassemble and re-assemble of furniture, wrapping, padding and some packing of items may be required
• Laying out of floor runners at residence
• On site clean up at residences of packing debris and carton removal
• Working with a partner to use dollies and straps to move very heavy items
• Taking inventory of articles being moved noting existing defects or scratches
• Breaking down of packing material, folding pads, and other general warehouse duties including sweeping
• Shoveling snow may be required during the winter months
• Must be able to work overtime as necessary to complete assignments
• A class 5 license may be required to drive pack vans to transport crew members and materials to job sites
• Other duties as assigned

• Must be able to safely lift and carry weights of 10 to 50 lbs without assistance, and 50 to 100 lbs plus with a second man. Proper lifting techniques must be used at all times.
• Must be able to push and pull fully loaded dollies
• Have the ability to kneel for extended periods, walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, safely exit trailers, trucks and other surfaces, lift arms above shoulder, do repetitive hand work, and have full use of both hands.
• The ability to read instructions and complete paperwork accurately
• Will also require working in both hot and cold environments transferring materials to vans and containers from customers residence

• Class 5 and/or Class 5 with air brake endorsement, or Class 3 with air
• Manual Loading and unloading of household goods, office furniture and freight, whilst providing direction to on site crews as to van or container placement of articles to minimize damage to the load
• Supervision of on site crews as well participation in the assembly and disassembly of furniture, wrapping, padding and packing of items, and inventory or articles noting existing defects
• Reporting to dispatch any customer concerns or crew injuries at the job site
• Working with a partner to use dollies and straps to move very heavy items and instructing on site crews in safety protocol for lifting and preparing the site to minimize personal injuries
• Ensuring vans/containers have the proper equipment & pads, and are cleaned at the end of shift
• Completion of Pre-Trip and post trip inspections, and drivers logs as per NSC requirements
• Participation in all safety and training initiatives required by company policy for drivers
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends as necessary to complete assignments. Out of town travel will be required on occasion.
• Must complete one rotation as a driver representative on the Branch Safety Committee
• Other duties as assigned and may require warehouse and other general labor assignments during slower periods

• Clean driver's abstract for Class 1 with Air Brakes or Class 3 with Air Brakes
• Must have Household Goods Moving experience
